Commissioned to photograph BMW’s state-of-the-art plant in Leipzig, where more than 9,000 employees produce up to 1,300 cars a day.

At the centre of the complex stands a hub designed by Zaha Hadid, linking production halls as partially assembled cars move overhead — a precise choreography of architecture and automation.

Each vehicle is built to order: metal sheets are pressed, welded by robots, brushed with emu feathers before painting, and sprayed in seamless succession of changing colours. After paint, human hands take over — installing interiors, wiring, and glass until the engine and undercarriage glide into place beneath the body.
