The High Voltage Laboratory at the Technical University of Denmark / by Alastair Wiper

Professor Joachim Holbøll with a high voltage sphere gap.

This is the High Voltage Laboratory at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), just outside Copenhagen. Built in the early 60's, it has since been in constant use teaching the fundamentals of high voltage technology and researching and testing electric power components for Danish companies. In charge of the lab is Professor Joachim Holbøll, who has worked at DTU since he received his Ph.D there in 1992. Joachim has a great collection of electrical components in a display case in his office, and I couldn't resist photographing some of them - as with the larger devices in the lab itself, I love their sculptural aesthetics.
