Designed by architect Louis Hygom and built between 1947 and 1953, Svanemølleværket provides district heating to Copenhagen. Situated in Nordhavn to the north of the city, the power station started life burning coal, and in 1985 was converted to burn natural gas and oil. The power station is currently operated by Dong Energy.
I've been past Svanemølleværket on the train many, many times, and always loved it. Inspired by American factory architecture of the 1930's, the huge glass windows allow in a lot of light and give the building an almost cathedral like feeling from the inside.
